Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy is a specialised area of physiotherapy focused on pelvic health. Our trained clinicians work with men, women, and children experiencing a wide range of concerns, including bladder and bowel control issues, prolapse, constipation and straining, bedwetting, pre- and post-pelvic or prostate surgery recovery, pelvic and perineal pain, pudendal neuralgia, bladder pain, vulvar pain, and vaginismus—just to name a few.
Treatment is tailored to your needs and may involve pelvic floor muscle strengthening or relaxation, mobility and stretching, optimisation of bladder and bowel function, and effective pain management strategies.
Ask yourself:
- Do you feel like you’ve never fully recovered after childbirth?
- Do you experience urine leakage, either unexpectedly or during activities like coughing, running, or jumping?
- Do you notice a feeling of heaviness or dragging, especially when standing or exercising?
If you answered yes to any of these, it may be time to see one of our pelvic health physiotherapists.
Common conditions we treat:
- Stress incontinence: Leakage of small amounts of urine during physical effort (e.g. coughing, sneezing, jumping)
- Urge incontinence: A sudden, strong urge to urinate that may lead to leakage before reaching the toilet
- Pelvic organ prolapse: A sensation of heaviness or dragging caused by organs shifting due to weakened support structures
- Pre- and post-natal conditions: Pregnancy and childbirth can place strain on the back, pelvis, abdominal, and pelvic floor muscles—commonly leading to pelvic girdle pain, abdominal separation, or pelvic floor dysfunction
- Post-surgical rehabilitation: Including recovery following prostate surgery or hysterectomy
