Manipulative physiotherapy is the term used to describe the field of physiotherapy practice that relates to disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Physiotherapists who practice in this area are skilled in the assessment, diagnosis, and physiotherapy management of musculoskeletal conditions.
Our experienced physiotherapists believe good evidence-based, “hands-on physiotherapy” is an essential initial component in the management of a painful injury. Our physiotherapists have a range of manual therapy skills from deep massage, mobilisation, manipulation and Mulligan techniques to reduce pain and movement dysfunction.
At North City Physiotherapy, all our physiotherapists have been through the New Zealand Manipulative Therapy postgraduate courses, and therefore are skilled in the area of mobilization and manipulation. They use a combination of specific manual procedures, together with general physiotherapy techniques, equipment, exercises, advice and return to work conditioning.
Joint Mobilization is a localized specific stretching of tight joints whereas joint Manipulation involves a high-velocity thrust technique which may produce a “click.” Our physiotherapists before joint manipulation will always educate you and gain consent before performing the technique. They will perform specific tests (especially for the neck) to optimize your safety.
Manual Therapy is an effective treatment for:
- Lower back pain
- Neck and headache main
- Post-operative orthopedic surgery
- Post fracture management
- Sports injury rehabilitation
- Correction of movement dysfunction (Poor movement patterns)
